Model N40 Neutron Low-Scatter Irradiator
The Model N40 is an automated, computer-controlled system which provides neutron or gamma radiation for exposing personnel dosimeter badges and calibrating radiation detection instruments. The system provides full 360º uniform irradiation in a large, well-shielded room to minimize scatter during instrument calibrations. It features steel-encased lead shielding, an eight-position source carousel, four precision linear positioning tracks, a moderation sphere, and safety interlocks. The model N40 is available with a variety of Californium, Cesium-137 and Cobalt-60 sources to match your specific needs. The below-grade source carousel is shielded with a polyester matrix of borated polyethylene.

During exposure cycles, the selected source is blown with compressed air from the carousel up to the expose head, where it is held in place by a controlled vacuum. Up to four instruments can be calibrated simultaneously. Each of the four tracks of the linear positioning system operates independently and can be set to a distance and height appropriate for a different instrument. One track also features a rotary axis.

The entire irradiator system is controlled by a simple graphical interface that provides one button calibration set up, calculates exposure rate based on distance and source size, shows irradiator status at a glance.
